The picture on the left is one of the original Prince.  He was 1/4 wolf, 1/4 husky and half blue heeler.
                                                                   He died much younger then he should have and I wanted to remember him happy- here he is!  Not sure how to straighten  the picture                                                                  You can see him at the stables in his dog house.
                                                                  HIs dog house, was originally a part of the old MacDonald's Farm that was near the Westbank Town Center in the 1980's..
                                                                  Big thanks to Vance Evans for putting together the red barn style to his dog house.

Hold the press.. today, Friday January 16th,  we just got our newest video in and I have to show it first!

Peace in The Valley
(a recording with me singing this and a karaoke version will be ready soon, in addition the video;  hoping to have a collage of different people doing it in different places)
Do you want to live a life, you'll be happy to have lived
do you want a legacy that will forever give
we can make it happen, we can find a way
find peace throughout our country, starting here today come on now!
Gotta stop producing things and start producing thoughts
gotta live with what we have, not forget those we've lost
the truth is here and now my friends, the future will never be
until we learn to live, in peace in the valley
how we treat our common man, how we treat our common beast
do we lend a helping hand, or on them do we feast
we're in this world together, we all have a common fate
lets end war and hate forever, and lets not hesitate, come on now!
gotta stop produing things, and start producing thoughts
gotta live for what we have and not forget those we've lost
the truth is here and now my friends, the future will never be
until we learn to live, in peace in the valley,
When you see a stranger in the street, say "how are you today?"
give a gentle nod, send a friendly wave
takes such a little time, yet gives a load of joy,
make the world a better place, for all ages girls and boys.
gotta stop producing things, and start producing thoughts
gotta live for what we have and not forget those we've lost
the truth is here and now my friends, the future will never be
until we learn to live, in peace in the valley, peace in the valley, peace in the valley!

Discover Magic Song:

Ihttps://www.facebook.com/pages/Silverado-Socrates/171573406233787?sk=app_2405167945
 wow.. how things change, yet stay the same here it is nearly December of 2014 and  I read what has been written back in 2009.  I have lost 3 houses to foreclosure that I bought into with a line of credit from the property Mandy and Me.   This place on Petterson Road has been the homebase of myself and Mandy since 1981.   Mandy , also known as Lady Jane, died on labor day weekend of 2014..  She is buried here as are at least a dozen furry friends.  3 horses in total died this year (the year of the horse!) but Lady Jane was 34 and the other two had also led a longer than average life for a horse.  Our home on Petterson is now in foreclosure too.    The songs and stories can be told elsewhere, but this place is truly special.

     Its not bad enough to have lost so much money and the partner  I bought in with now owning two of the properties.  Now the listing price of the Mandy and Me property is less then the line of credit I originally got!    I know its worth much more.  I should add that I was very foolish to have bought into the houses like I had without knowing the person I bought into them with.  Turns out others lost hundreds of thousands of dollars and at least one other lost their home from doing so.  I can't apologize enough for having gambled the retirement funds of the horses but  I can speak up what the plan was and see if others my want to be a part of it.   I may have lost over 1/2 a million in the partnership I bought into, but and have gained a multimillion dollar education that I look forward to translating to homes and happiness for more than just me and my horses. This is the true blessing.   The horses, myself and many others over the years, worked as a team to provide good safe times to others.   I know we don't deserve to lose our home, but I also know that many others have experienced similar or greater losses and do not deserve it either.   Hoping the songs can cheer and motivate all ages of folk to lead peaceful honest lives, while helping others do the same.

     The trailriding tours of past nearly always offered a after tour of tricks and stories. This tour is now being developed to be a "Petterson Supernatural Horse and Farm tour".  Since this site was made, 3 songs have been recorded including "Discover Magic" , "Cool Momma", and  the peace park version of Big Yellow Taxi.  A verse has been added to "Peace in the Valley" and is in the process of being recorded now.   The start of this page shows a video done in Zambia sung by some Kasama youth at a waterfalls in their province!  Another version is in the process of being made in Vancouver, BC.  Will post both it here when it's ready.

A Few Of My Song Lyrics Plus A Little More - Just For Fun

I think a lot while riding the horses.    Whether figuring something out or just having fun, or just plain going for a ride, i have ended up thinking up songs that i later write out.    On rides with clients, i sometimes test them out (i have a captive audience).   More than once, i have been asked for an encore, so they must be okay... doesn't really matter, as i like them and  plan to put them out in audio one day.   At the end of page 2 of fun stuff, you can hear two of them!   Hope you like them too.

        It is currently November of 2009 and i am excited to have a dvd cover printed.  Since starting this webpage i have had a lot of hard luck, but have come up with two of my favorite songs to date.  One song, the "fire within"  was written while at my new Fort Socs music and meeting post at the delta grand (good idea, but not timing was bad and my cooridinating skills were poor) I was plain frustrated at not being able to take rides because of the fires going on.   The chorus of the other song, Peace in the Valley, was written while getting ready for an introduction on building sustainability.. i wanted to introduce social sustainability.   The song came together in time for international peace day.  ( I would go to Africa in the spring of 2011  to attend the world conference of the international institute for peace thru tourism (IIPT) and have the 3rd verse ready after that tour in time for doing some songs at Canada Day-with the help of some younger friends.   This was another big cost of time and money but one I feel is priceless in both the experience at the conference and in a small community 7rl hours from the city where the conference was held.  I have maintained communication and a bit of a pen pal/  peace thru music connection with a school and some young adults there)
       The winter is coming and i am almost cornered into singing for the horses supper.  I am currently reading a book which talks about how gaining is delusion and losing is enlightenment... if i get any lighter i will start to fly!  Things are tough, but the songs in my heart and the dreams in my head refuse to die so here goes I!  i am going to start you with the 2 new songs
since then, I have written and recorded Discover Magic and changed the words of Big Yellow taxi to be the peace park version of Big Yellow Taxi- when you listen to big yellow taxi note that I had just gotten papers to say I was to be going to court and the bank wanted immediate possession of my home and the trial to be in Vancouver.   Did the take in one or two tries, but was a bit choked.  Very lucky to get the opportunity to record it for free though!   At court, just before my birthday, I was able to buy time to get the summer for trail rides and court in fall to determine the next step- a new roof, vehicle /vet bills covered, property taxes paid early plus some credit cards paid off, some money put aside on top of all the regular feed and business bills, but not enough.   Probably should not have not paid the property tax and one of the credit card bills because things are tight again (renters moved out when heard place was for sale)  Anyways.. Discover Magic is a the top of this page.. I wrote it after finding out about the International Institute for Peace thru Tourism (IIPT)   The picture you will see on the facebook page (where the song is) was in Africa where I had attended the world converence of IIPT.  I  went with the hope of getting the orchard and area that we ride on to be designated a peace park... still working on it, hopefully with the help of some friends! Now, the song Peace in the Valley is being recorded there by some people I met while in Zambia.

FIre within

Few people ride when its raining,

Few people ride when theres a fire outside

 They want to ride when they want to

They want to follow their desires

But when you gotta race doesn’t matter what the weather does

 Doesn’t matter whether people think you are nuts,

 You gotta do what you gotta do,

   Gotta do what you gotta do, cause you are tough.

Fire Within has changed quite a bit since then.  This year, I added a couple of new verses to better align it with my personal goals.
Fire Within

Few people ride when its raining, few people ride when there's fire outside;

they want to ride when they want to, they want to follow their desires;

But when you want to race, doesn't matter what the weather does,

...

doesn't matter whether folk think you are nuts ,

you know you have to run, when you know you have to run!

know you have to try, to quench the fire inside.

There is a trail that i've wanted, to ride on most of my life;

Seems circumstances won't let me, I'm hoping thru musice they might!

when you have a dream doesn't matter what the weather does;

doesn't matter whether folk think it won't work,

I know I have to do when I know I have to do;

I know I have to try, to share the fire inside!

Next time that it is raining you can ride with us in your dreams;

explore the valleys and mountains, cross the rivers and streams;

when we have a goal, doesn't matter what the weather does;

as long as we believe we can be;

anything that we want to see;

...peace of mind is free,

Winners Don’t Know They’re in a Race

Winners don’t know they are in a race

  they just like to run

it you have this view of life

half your battles are already won!

if you want success my friend

repeat what I say

 As a member of the human race

I am a winner and a runner

and I have fun doing good things every day

Some thing I must warn you

some  thing you must beware

as you profess your new attitude

at you people will stare

Another thing that will happen

as you do good things you want to try

Sometimes you will feel so gosh doggity good

you will think you can fly!

I changed this last song too.. or put a couple songs/writings together.

An addiction is an addiction, no matter what the sign in place You have to live a life of balance if you want to with the race.

Winners dont know their in a race, they just like to run

if you have this view of life, half your battles are already won

Some people say do this, some people say do that,

you have to know for yourself where your equilibrium is at.

One thing I must warn you, one thing you must beware

as you profess your attitude at you people may stare.

Another thing that may happen, as you do good things you want to try

sometimes you will feel so gosh doggity good, you'll think you can fly!

An addiction is an addiction, no matter what the sign in place Youhave to live a life of balance if you want to win the race

I feel the “Cree Indian Prophesy” poster succinctly expresses many truths. I had received this poster while waiting for a lecture from the unique lives presentations in Vancouver in the mid 1990's (over the series I met Margaret Thatcher, Coretta Scot King, Jane Goodal, Jean Harris and Debbie Reynolds—all of which told amazingly inspirational and selfless stories).  Emotions would well up in me after reading the poster and  the following song was developed from this inspiration:

Only after the last tree has been cut down
Only after the last river has been shut down by the poison
Only after the last fish has been caught
Only then will you realize
That money sold as food will not be bought

Money sold as food will not be bought

Have you ever bought a nickel for a dime
Then you will realize the sense of this rhyme….
Until we can give without receiving
The world will have nothing worth leaving
We have been creating a world wide crime
We have been creating a world wide crime

What can I do, you may ask
Surely one can not make a difference to this monumental task
Learn to walk and talk with one another
And have patience for the others
While we do what we can with what we’ve got!
While we do what we can with what we’ve got!

Before the last tree has been cut down
Before the last river has been shut down by the poison
Before the last fish has been caught
Hopefully you will realize
That money sold as food will not be bought
Money sold as food will not be bought

Cool Mom

This song is dedicated to many friends of Mandy and Me who have had bouts of cancer.   I hope to have the recorded version of it ready for playing  sometime in 2009.    So, to all those cool mommas, papa's brothers and sisters... here we go!
 recorded the song in 2013!   Here is the link:  https://myspace.com/silveradosocrates/music/song/cool-momma-93844095-104399901

    Cool Mom was a horse , a very fine horse

a very fine horse was she

but she didn’t feel a part of things,

at Mandy & Me.

 She went out on a ride one day

problem was she didn’t come back!

She thought she’d make her own trail,

she‘d make her own tracks.

She was a good looking; one leg lame, blue roan horse;

She was a good looking, one leg lame, blue roan horse;

She was a good looking, one leg lame, blue roan horse;

and Cool Mom, was her name!

It was Mother’s day when we found out it was a permanent tour;

It was not till Father’s day that we could lure her

In between she crossed hill and dale on trails she had never been

and a mighty swollen creek she had to near swim!

She was a good looking, one leg lame adventure seeking horse

She was a good looking one leg lame adventure seeking horse,

She was a good looking one leg lame adventure seeking horse,

and Cool Mom was her name!

For the summer to a ranch Cool Mom ‘Mandy and Me’ did lend,

on return one of her eyes needed someone to tend.

Antibiotics for four months did not allow it to mend,

so a professional horse eye doctor to her we did send!

She was a one eye hurt, completely sound, adventure seeking horse

She was a one eye hurt, completely sound, adventure seeking horse

She was a one eye hurt, completely sound, adventure seeking horse

and Cool Mom, was her name!

The verdict of the eye doctor was not very good,

but at least now we found out exactly where we stood.

He diagnosed it a tumor and we took the eye out as soon as we could

The operation was successful, all the cancer was gone (knock on wood)  then we  said….

She was a one eyed, completely sound, cancer surviving horse;

She was a one eyed, completely sound, cancer surviving horse;

She was a one eyed, completely sound, cancer surviving horse

and Cool Mom  Cool Mom Cool Mom…  was her name.

From a young age, I have been inspired from real people in stories i have read.  Initially, it was sports people like Johnney Weismuller and Babe Didrickson.  I am still an avid reader, but i am inspired by everyday folk as well... there are so many canadian heroes that may never make their stories in print.

Amazing People  Silverado Socrates

Amazing people all over the world,

All over the world I see,

Amazing people all over the world,

and they are looking right back at me,

Amazing people all over the world,

All over the world you’ll find

Amazing people all over the world

Once they realize, it is just a state of mind

do you realize it is just a state of mind

Bear Bones
Sometime when guiding around 1998

Mirjam smelled something foul a half mile behind the orchard gates
When she took a closer look to find the door’s lair
She came upon a great big bear!

Maybe it was a rattlesnake bite, maybe old age
Could have been shot but the bear sat as if on stage
Propped with his back against a tree,
One might have thought he had been resting and having tea...

There are some theories we supposed
Compiled from evidence that was disclosed
There had been an empty box of beer off the trail
And this is the premise or our beer bear tales

Theory 1
There was a bunch of bear drinking beer in the bush
When “Billy” drank the last one and got ambushed

Theory 2
Billy the bear was drinking his beer but drank the bottle too
This is a beer bottle belly theory number two

The path where our Billy bear sat beside is called the Bear Bones trail
And the story behind it never goes stale,
Most of the bones have been scattered by one and all
But our nasal memories know this tale isn’t tall

Calamity Kay
Calamity Kay, Calamity Kay,
She'll save the day, Calamity Kay
Calamity Kay,  Calamity Kay
Hip hip hooray, for Calamity Kay

Kay was a lady who wanted to ride a horse
We made it to be a self paying course
She'd help clean up and get the rides ready
Taking rides out is fun, but the work load can be heavy

Her favorite horse was one named Ebony
When Kay rode her, she would sing happily
She would ride the trails, though it meant working off her tale
Not a dime would she take, she rode for riding's sake

Calamity Kay, Calamity Kay,
She'll save the day, Calamity Kay
Calamity Kay,  Calamity Kay
Hip hip hooray, for Calamity Kay

One day she went beyond the call of duty
Walking thru the mud, she lost her booty
Later as she pulled in the rear

Suddenly Noah did appear
She grabbed his chain and carried on without fuss
But then Prince Buffy added himself to the trail riding bus!

Noah wrapped his chain around Ebony
Leaving Kay hanging to the horn with the  inside of her knee

When the three with 4 legs settled down
Kay  climbed off,  calm as a clam
By the time the lead guide looked to see if things were all right
Kay had Noah in tow and Prince Buffy was out of sight

Calamity Kay, Calamity Kay,
She'll save the day, Calamity Kay
Calamity Kay,  Calamity Kay
Hip hip hooray, for Calamity Kay

For her helping beyond the call
Of any mortal whims at all
We made an award in her name
Now she has eternal fame
